Kyndryl · backup and data recovery services

Łukasz
Foltyński

Delivery Project Manager and Service Delivery Manager. Since 2013 I’ve worked on the services that let companies get their data back when something goes wrong.

After hours: simple websites, AI, scripting and automation, SQL tuning, VB code and genealogy.

About me

I started out fixing backups myself. Now I’m responsible for how that service reaches customers.

My career started at the console. I monitored backup jobs, troubleshot data recovery and rolled out changes that customers asked for. Over time I got the harder cases, and later I started supporting the whole team.

Today I’m responsible for Backup as a Service. I run projects, look after service quality and make sure technical teams, customers and management understand each other. Years of hands-on work help: when we talk about deadlines or SLAs, I know what’s going on under the hood.

It’s all been one unbroken path. I started at IBM, and in 2022 my part of the company was spun off as Kyndryl.

What I do

At Kyndryl I combine two roles. Both come down to the same thing: making sure the backup service works the way we agreed with the customer.

Delivery Project Manager

Projects in the BUaaS service

I run projects from the first plan to handing the finished service over to day-to-day operations.

  • planning scope, schedule and milestones
  • coordinating technical teams and vendors
  • tracking risks, dependencies and scope changes
  • progress reporting and keeping the customer informed
  • supporting management with operational tasks and strategic initiatives

Service Delivery Manager

Quality of the live service

I look after the service day to day, once it’s live for the customer.

  • tracking performance against SLAs and KPIs
  • service reviews and reporting for the customer
  • overseeing incidents, problems and changes
  • handling escalations and corrective actions
  • improving the service

After hours

I like it when an idea turns into something that works. This is what I do outside work.

Simple websites

I make simple static sites like this one. HTML, CSS and a bit of JavaScript are enough. There’s no CMS or database, so the site is fast and easy to maintain.

AI

AI helps me write code and scripts, find solutions and organise information. I check and test everything it gives me myself.

Scripting and automation

I turn repetitive manual work into scripts. Less clicking, fewer mistakes.

SQL query tuning

Working out why a query is slow: execution plans, indexes, how tables are joined.

VB code

I write and fix VB code when something needs a quick improvement.

I’m not an expert in all of these. I know the basics and can build things on my own, and when I get stuck, AI helps me get moving again.

Genealogy

My most personal hobby.

I’m piecing together my family’s history. I use databases available in Poland, and AI helps me analyse and organise what I find.

It’s a lot like working with data in IT: you search, check and link records. The difference is that every record here is a real person. My family tree keeps growing.

Let’s talk

I built this page in my spare time, with help from AI. If you like it and want something similar, or just fancy a chat about automation, SQL or genealogy, drop me a line.
